Connect DonorAtlas to Microsoft 365 Copilot
What you'll need
- Someone with Global Administrator rights in your Microsoft 365 tenant, for a one-time install.
- Copilot Chat, which comes with Microsoft 365 business plans, or a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The agent itself needs no extra license.
- A DonorAtlas account for each person who will use it.
For the admin
Copilot users can't add an MCP server themselves, so an admin installs the DonorAtlas agent once for the whole organization.
- 1
Download the agent
Download the DonorAtlas agent package below. It contains no credentials.
Download the DonorAtlas agentA small .zip file. Keep it handy for the next step. - 2
Open the agents page
Use the button below to go straight there. Or, in the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Agents → All agents; if you don't see Agents, go to Settings → Integrated apps → Upload custom apps instead, with the app type set to Teams App.
- 3
Add the agent
Above the table of agents, to the right of the search bar, click Add agent and choose the .zip you downloaded.
- 4
Choose who gets it
Assign it to the whole organization or to specific people or groups, accept the permission request, and finish. You can widen the audience later without uploading it again.
- 5
Wait for Microsoft to roll it out
The agent usually appears in Copilot within minutes, but it can take a few hours.
For everyone else
- 6
Open the DonorAtlas agent
In Microsoft 365 Copilot, choose DonorAtlas under Agents in the left sidebar.
- 7
Sign in and test it
Say “search for donors in New York City” or something similar. The first time, Copilot shows a Sign in prompt; sign in with your DonorAtlas account and it will answer.
If something goes wrong
The agent doesn't appear in Copilot.
Microsoft rolls new agents out on its own schedule, so give it a few hours first. If it still isn't there, ask your admin to confirm the agent was assigned to you or to a group you belong to. You can also open Copilot's Agent Store, look under Built by your org, and add it yourself.
The upload is refused because custom apps aren't allowed.
Your tenant has custom apps switched off. In the Teams admin center, go to Teams apps → Manage apps → Org-wide app settings, allow custom apps, and try the upload again. Most tenants already have this on.
Copilot asks me to confirm before some actions.
Copilot asks before any action that changes something, such as adding a person to a list or starting an export. Looking people up, searching, and reading profiles don't ask after the first time. This is Copilot's own safeguard and applies to every agent, not just DonorAtlas.
Stuck, or using something else?
We'll get you connected. Reply usually comes the same day.
